Small Group Learning
Small Group Learning is designed to assist you to maximise the benefits of working and learning together with your peers in a small group educational setting. As one of a small number of GPs selected to participate in a Small Group Learning program you will be involved in the planning of the program. The planning committee will define the program’s content and agree to undertake a program of educational forums and activities should be conducted over a 12 month period with timeframe and locations to be agreed. Ideally it is intended that each Small Group Learning Program will choose a theme (eg: women’s health, childhood illness, practice management etc) rather than a variety of different, unrelated topics. For this program to qualify for category 1 points in the 2008-2010 triennium, the topics must be thematically linked.
Based on the outcome of the initial planning committee meeting and an understanding of the group’s combined objectives, Laverty Pathology will develop a program that will meet the group’s learning objectives. Learning will be encouraged through collaboration and GPs sharing knowledge. At the end of the program, the group will reflect upon what was learnt, how the group functioned and the benefits of the small group process.
Small Group Learning programs consist of up to 10 GPs. Where appropriate, practice managers, nurses and specialists may be invited to participate. Participants, however, will be personally invited to participate. The program will provide a minimum of 8 hours of education over a 12 month period.
This Active Learning Program attracts 40 Group 1 CPD Points (which is half your requirement for this Category for the triennium).
The program will be managed by Laverty Pathology and all GPs actively involved in the program will be kept up to date with all details relating to the running of the program.
