Profile
Dr Merle Greenberg trained as a surgical pathology registrar at Royal North Shore Hospital 1978-81, before joining the Department of Cytology at Westmead Hospital as a staff specialist and Director of General Cytology in 1981.
Later she became Director of Cytology at Westmead before joining Hampson, Sugerman Pathology in 1996, which later merged with Macquarie Pathology where she was the Director of Cytology and Medical Director.
During the 1980’s Merle established and developed the FNA service at Westmead Hospital and opened the Fine Needle Biopsy Clinic there in 1985.
While in the cytology department at Westmead Hospital, she worked with the Breast Screen West Service as Deputy Pathologist and established the fine needle biopsy service at the Assessment Centres at Parramatta and Liverpool Hospitals.
Her special areas of interest include all fine needle aspiration cytology and in particular breast, thyroid gland, lymph node, salivary glands, lung, pancreas as well as oral cytology.
