Profile

Dr Christine Johnson graduated from the University of Sydney in 1982 with First Class Honours and then spent 1982-89 at Concord Hospital, initially as a surgical trainee and subsequently as a pathology registrar.

Her training in microbiology commenced at Concord Hospital and was completed at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in 1991. This was followed by a Senior Registrar year with SWAPS (Liverpool Hospital) before she joined HAPS (John Hunter Hospital, Newcastle) as a Staff Specialist in 1993, with a promotion to Senior Staff Specialist in 2001.

This was concurrent with a conjoint lectureship at the University of Newcastle, (Lecturer 1993-97 and Senior Lecturer 1997-02). She moved to Perth at the beginning of 2003 to a position with St John of God Pathology.
Christine returned to Sydney and joined Mayne Health Laverty Pathology in 2004.

She has a special interest in bacteriology, bacterial infections and the optimal use of laboratory tests to manage patient problems and has been the editor of the microbiology entries in the RCPA’s Manual of Use and Interpretation of Pathology Tests for the past 11 years.
