Profile
Dr Pitman joined SDS in June of 2003 having returned from a two month consultancy for WHO examining SARS preparedness in Pacific Island Countries. She has worked for two years at ICPMR, Westmead Hospital.
Catherine began working in Pathology at Royal Brisbane Hospital . Through her medical and pathology training she embarked upon a number of research areas. Her Honours project involved typing strains of Vibrio cholerae from Malaysia.
A years leave in 1995 allowed clinical and laboratory research of dysentery in Malawi, East Africa, for empiric antibiotic prescribing. This was followed by a year researching Group A Streptococci in Paris and Prague, examining biotyping methods and virulence markers.
Catherine brings to Laverty Pathology a strong background in viral and bacteriological diagnostic experience and a keen interest in infection control and research.
