Profile

Dr Eric Slobedman graduated from the University of Cape Town, South Africa in 1960 and trained in pathology at the University of Cape Town Medical School and Groote Schuur Hospital.

From 1967 to 1977 he was in private pathology practice and lectured in Pathology at the University of Cape Town Medical School. Dr Slobedman emigrated to Australia in 1977 and, until moving to Sydney in 1994, was the Head of Pathology at the Institute of Medical and Veterinary Science Central Northern Laboratory in Adelaide.

He joined Mayne Health Laverty Pathology in 1994 and was the Head of Surgical Pathology from 2001 to 2006.
Dr Slobedman has wide experience in anatomical pathology with a particular interest in dermatopathology and, more specifically, in melanocytic lesions. He serves as a Governor of the University of Sydney Melanoma Foundation.

In addition, one of Dr Slobedman’s main interests is the factors which influence the delivery of a high quality pathology service.
He believes that technical expertise is a good baseline only; a good pathologist is necessarily also a good communicator who appreciates that there is a sick person, a worried family and a concerned doctor behind each test request.
