Dr Barry Barker

Profile

Dr Barry Barker trained as a general pathologist and now spends most of his time in anatomical pathology and cytopathology. He is active in the Hunter Medical Community and has been involved in training courses for local General Practitioners on fine needs aspiration techniques, with the regions Breast Centre Education Program.

Barry was a Junior Resident Medical Officer at Sydney Hospital 1962, Resident Medical Officer at Royal Alexandra Hospital for Children in 1963 and a Pathology Registrar in 1964, before joining St Vincent's Hospital Darlinghurst from 1965-71 as Pathology Registrar.

Barry joined Hendry and Hampson, now Laverty Pathology in 1972, he holds nine VMO positions in NSW hospitals and has the role of Director of Cytology and Clinical Chemsitry.

Barry's area of special interest is in fine needle aspiration which he introduced into the Hunter region in the mid 1970's.
