About Dr Merle Greenberg
Dr Merle Greenberg graduated from the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa in 1968.
She trained in Histopathology at ICPMR, Westmead and Baragwanath Hospital, South Africa. Soon after she was accepted a role as Registrar in Anatomical Pathology at Royal North Shore Hospital, Sydney. Merle was admitted to Fellowship of Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia. She’s been a Staff specialist, Anatomical Pathology, Westmead Hospital, Sydney as well as Head of General Cytology, Westmead Hospital. In 1985 he was admitted to Fellowship of the International Academy of Cytology. From 1990-1991, Merle was the Chairperson of the NSW Branch of Australian Society of Cytology (ASC); Chairperson of the subcommittee for continuing education for the ASC; Committee member for the Cytology QA for NATA; Breast Steering Committee – Breast Screen West; On executive committee for Western Sydney Breast Group. Merle is also part of the Working Party for the development of minimum standards for Pap smear providers in NSW. From 2008-2015, Merle was the Medical Director, Pathologist in Charge, Cytology, Laverty Pathology. Dr Greenberg was one of the original co-authors to describe the features of adenocarcinoma-in-situ of the cervix. She is currently the Deputy Medical Director; Director of Cytology, Laverty Pathology.
